We are thrilled to announce that Hannells, Derby’s number one sales and lettings agency, has been awarded “highly commended” for the overall “Best Family Business” category in the prestigious 2023 Midlands Family Business of the Year Awards…
In a brilliant awards ceremony held at the stunning “Kelham Hall” in Newark, the Hannells team were in the company of some of the biggest, brightest and best family-run businesses of all shapes and sizes from across the Midlands.
Once the winners for the individual categories were announced, for the likes of “Fastest growing family business” and “Best small family business”, it was time for the big one – where the overall winners for the “Midlands Family Business Of The Year” were set to take to the stage to pick up their award.
And whilst we didn’t quite make it to the top spot, we were absolutely delighted to be announced as “Highly Commended” in the overall category, putting us firmly in the top 3 independent, family-run businesses from across the Midlands.
Benjamin Brain, Marketing & Training Director, (second on the left in the photo above) said; “We’re no strangers to winning awards having picked up many prestigious industry accolades over the years. But this was a different kettle of fish. This time we weren’t just competing against other estate agencies, we were competing against the best businesses from ALL types of industries across the whole of the Midlands. Some of these companies are hundreds of years old with incredible heritage and amazing stories, so to be recognised as one of the very best and to be thought of in the same ilk as them is just a really proud moment not just for the family, but the whole business.”
To make it to the finals, businesses must first submit a detailed application. A panel of experienced judges from a variety of sectors then compile a shortlist of successful companies – each of which must then deliver a presentation about their business and face being interviewed by the judging panel at one of the main sponsor’s locations.
Alison Brain, Joint Founding Director, said; “We were really impressed with how professional and thorough the whole application and judging process was. It was a pleasure to be a part of and given that it coincided almost perfectly with our 20th anniversary celebrations, it was a brilliant (and sometimes quite emotional!) opportunity to pause for a moment and take a look at how far we’ve come as a business over the last 20 years – something that as business owners we rarely make the time to stop and think about! Of the many awards we’ve won over the years, this is certainly one of our proudest moments.”
Hannells was launched by Michael and Alison Brain back in 2003 from a tiny, two-storey office in Hilton. With no prior estate agency experience, the business has grown considerably over the last 20 years in both size and reputation. With a relentless focus on local branches and maintaining strong family values, we’ve been the top selling estate agency in Derby since 2005, winning many nationally and internationally acclaimed awards along the way.
With over 60 staff, all based in Derby, we have six residential sales branches strategically placed throughout the Derby suburbs and a central residential lettings head office.
