Why You Shouldn’t Wait Until The New Year To Make a Move!

It’s nearly that time of year again, the festive adverts have started on the telly (already!) and thoughts are drifting towards the oncoming Christmas. Traditionally now is the final push for those already in the process of moving to get everything in place ready to be in their new homes before Christmas, but what if you are just thinking of making a move? Wait it out until the New Year right?

Not necessarily.

Why wait? Now is a great time to get your property valued, get it clean, tidy and ready for photographing without the added pressure of discarded Christmas trees, bins full of wrapping paper and all those extra Christmas presents cluttering up the place!

With all those people potentially waiting until the New Year to get their houses up on the market, there is likely to be less competition for those who take the plunge early and get marketing now. And whilst the supply of properties coming to the market may be lower, we have found that the demand from potential buyers is as strong as ever!

In fact Rightmove have noted the same increase in demand in their annual market review, stating: ‘The period between Christmas and New Year is far busier than most vendors think. We ensure our sales team is at full strength during this period” in fact, between Christmas day 2017 and January the 2^nd 2018 Rightmove saw page views increase by a massive 228% equating to an extra 27 million page views!

On top of this, here at Hannells, we registered 773 new applicants between the 1^st of November and the 1^st of January 2018, 428 of which were proceedable, that’s an awful lot of buyers to miss out on by waiting until January the 2^nd!

We know buyer activity remains strong throughout the Christmas period and it makes a lot of sense that web page viewings would increase. More people are likely to be off work and at home, giving them more time to sit on their tablets, laptops and mobile phones flicking through the best properties on offer, so instead of waiting until January, why not make sure they are looking at yours?
