Hannells, Derby’s multiple-award winning, family-run estate agency, are celebrating again as they’ve been shortlisted as finalists in the hotly contested 2023 Midlands Family Business Of The Year Awards…
Launched back in 2009, the purpose of the awards is to celebrate and showcase the region’s great family businesses with entries coming in from dozens of successful family businesses across a wide variety of industries and professions.
Shortlisted for two categories, the independent, family-run business is in the running for “Property & Construction Excellence” and the overall “Family Business Of The Year” category.
Alison Brain, joint co-founder, said “Although the winners are yet to be announced, we’re really proud to be named as finalists for this prestigious awards. We’ve won many acclaimed industry awards over the years but we’ve always been very proud of being a family business and to be recognised for that is really special.”
The firm had already been celebrating after March of this year marked the 20th anniversary since Michael and Alison Brain first launched the business from a tiny two-story office in small Derby village back in 2003.
Since then, the property business has gone on to become a huge success and unlike many of the other local independent estate agencies that have been acquired by large corporate entities, they’ve chosen to remain family owned and still oversee the running of the business to this day alongside sons Benjamin Brain and Oliver Brain who both hold senior positions in the company.
Nicola Barnard, Area Director, said “I joined Hannells 8 years ago after having worked in a large corporate estate agency for many years and I couldn’t believe how different it was. As cheesy as it sounds, it really does feel like we’re all part of one big family here and everyone that knows me will tell you that whilst I may not be a “Brain” by name, I am certainly considered one by nature! I’m proud to be a part of this family business and to be named as a finalist when there are so many brilliant examples out there is an amazing achievement!”
Whilst the team can’t wait to find out how they’ve faired against some the crème de la crème of family businesses in the Midlands, there’s still one more step in the Awards process as they face an interview in front of a judging panel which will be taking place later on this month.
