Hannells hits the headlines!

< Back

As property sales had been steadily increasing month upon month throughout 2013, we knew that 2014 was going to be a fantastic year for the Derby property market. However, even we couldn’t have predicted just how busy all of the Hannells branches were going to be in January as we smashed just about every record we ever set!

Even our brand new flagship office on Duffield Road in Allestree exceeded all expectations and recorded some fantastic figures for their first month of opening. The Derby Evening Telegraph quickly noticed how many properties we were selling and decided that we deserved the front page of Monday’s edition.

We’re delighted to have been given the accolade of being the only estate agent ever to feature on the front page, and we’re even more delighted that it’s because of positive news!

Whilst it is truly fantastic news for buyers and sellers throughout Derby, we’d like to add a little bit of context for those who have already seen or plan on reading the article (the link to their online version is below). In our opinion, we’re still a long way off from seeing signs of a “boom”. There’s no doubt whatsoever that the market has seen a much needed boost, but we’re still way off seeing anything like what happened in 2007/08 with regards to house prices and lending.

Obviously, headlines and interesting stories make good reading and when the press talks about the property market, most of the time their figures are heavily biased towards the London market. Any talks of “bubbles” or “booms” is irrelevant when London is taken out of the equation. Excluding the South, prices across England over the last 12 months have risen by approximately 2% which is exactly in-line with the cost of living.

So, whilst it is absolutely an excellent time for buyers and sellers to make their moves, don’t believe everything you hear in the news and as we always say do your due diligence and do some research for yourself! Obviously, here at Hannells we’re always happy to help so if you have any questions or queries, please feel free to get in touch with any one of our six local branches!
